Flygirl

 Novel by Sherri Smith.

This was a quick read, well-written and fascinating. Historical fiction about the WASP (Women Auxiliary Service Pilots) during WW2, it also delves into racial issues, specifically the idea of a negro "passing" for white and the implications that carries for her future identity. My only complaint is that I was so enamored with the main character, I really wanted to know what happened to her after the war, so I was dissatisfied with the ambiguous ending. Highly recommended for ages 12+ (clean but with mature themes).

Activity idea: Sign up to take a flying lesson in a small plane.
